FOSSILS!! (Discoverable Subspecies options)
I suggest giving each playable a set of “Fossils” hidden or buried across the map in various locations. Upon discovering a fossil, the player “unlocks” a new subspecies option, that they can buy and switch between in the home cave!
- Discoverable subs wouldn’t need new models, they can use the existing variations as the base, depending on the perk
- 5 or so Fossils for each playable to discover (only discoverable by the respective creature?)
A change I’d recommend to go along with such an addition, reaching adult as a specific subspecies should allow you to switch to that sub with no cost from that point onwards.
I saw a similar suggestion about endgame content made earlier, and thought a mix of that, and the “Fossils” mechanic in my Adventure overhaul post would be perfect

Q / AstralarchivistLets say, each map will have THREE new Fossils for each playable to discover, 3 on Gondwa, 3 on Panjura, and 3 on additional future maps.
When Character transfers are enabled, your creature character can explore each map and collect them all!
Using TYRANNOSAURUS as an example:
PANJURA
- Fossil buried in Corpse-Cove: unlocks "+10% Fracture Resist" subspecies
- Fossil buried in Tyrants Gorge: unlocks "10% reduced damage to Head" sub
- Fossil buried near Grassland Lake: unlocks "-10% reduced running stam drain" sub
GONDWA
- Fossil buried in Crater: unlocks "+5-10% trot speed" sub
- Fossil buried on a small island near shore: "25% reduced swim-stam" sub
- Fossil buried in Salt Flats: "15% reduced food / water drain" sub
Specifics, numbers, and locations are debatable, but this is just a suggestion for how it could work.
Uncovering a new Fossil would also give a large growth/marks-reward
