Add a scent system, or a way for carnivores to track prey.
Being able to track and hunt other players from clues left behind, or a scent trail would go along way for predators to actively search for food and other players. It would also give the prey creatures a way to see predator tracks and scents to know its time to leave the area.

I actually like that this isn't a thing tbh. It gives weaker dinos a chance to get away. -

PriestessAthenaNo thank you. The herbivores are already disadvantaged. Their only defense is getting away most times.

Doyaduku_beMid Idea. Carnivores are already harassing babies/juvies. If scent tracking is added, it should be limited to AI prey and other adults. This may be a great idea wants moss game mechanics and abilities are added.

EnvirobridgeFor ai prey and bleeding targets, I think a scent system makes sense, especially because it’s hard to find some ai after they scatter into bushes. Bleeding is already pretty trackable. Scent would probably just provide a quality of life improvement

vnholdenThis should be added first and foremost but only smell a dino if it is bleeding, dont really need scent with water you can see that on map. If this aint a good idea well put roaming ai on the map, cause the way it is now forces you to hunt a player dino not that i mind that at all.

MetallianThe lack of a scent system really breaks the immersion. It is the one big major disappointment so far in this game. Hunting critters who've hidden in the ample vegetation and finding carcasses becomes a big problem for those of us who hate PvP and are just waiting for single-player to be viable. Please reconsider this decision.

AngryredditorThis is horrible. What?? It would ruin hiding and overpower mega packs and trolls.

SimplyPhoenixIf you are able to get away from a carnivore then you should be able to get away without being hunted for the rest of your life. This sometimes happens in the Isle where predators will not give up hunting a dinosaur that escaped it. So, if you escaped a predator because you were able to exhaust the carnivore's stamina and saved your own the predator would eventually catch up which isn't really fun for stamina tactics.

dmoranNo it's difficult enough to hide from players sometimes no need to give them a pin on our position. Would be wildly abused by large packs. Being able to hide, sometimes within a few feet of large predators has saved me countless times, if they could just smell me out it would make the game very unbalanced for herbivores.

PeachieI personally think this could be implemented well if very well thought-out.
Certain distances the scent can be tracked, the further it is the less is shown until non-existent. The scent tracked based on some sort of triggering conditions such as a bleeding dino, a nearby carcass, or making a call. Footprints would only show for a certain distance but not follow forever, a sort of decay happens and the decay extends with fresh scent (bleeding, venom, calls) and the decay shortens with things like running across water, rainy/snowy/foggy weather conditions, or being quiet and sneaking/crouching. Honestly im gonna pull from an early memory: WolfQuest. Their scent system was really neat where wind would change how the scent carried and tracks would overlap and get muddled, the scent and tracks would fade based on how long theyve been there, youd have to kind of do a bit of hunting to find which direction the fresher scent was headed.
So, yeah, might be a bit complex but not the worst thing. -

AliceI feel like this should definitely be added, it would add so much immersion to the game. I feel like this should only be available for use in certain situations though. For example if a player is bleeding (HEAVILY) and have escaped. We can track them down. I don't understand why people don't want this. I feel like it is an absolute must for a game with dinosaurs in it. Plus, you could always tweak it to balance things out just right.

Furykn16htI was thinking that some form of this would be neat to have. But it should be sort 💩 based. We all gotta eat, we all gotta 💩. In the animal world droppings are a huge part of marking territories, and hunting. Today's carnivores use droppings to locate and determine lots of info about prey.
