People should be able to refer a friend if they already own the game.
The friend referral code should not be required at checkout and should be applicable by people who already own the game. Requiring new people to buy new copies of the game to count as being referred is a massive fuck you to people who've already been supporting the game and encouraging other people to support the game way earlier in development. My friends and I for example have already referred as many friends to the game as we'll ever be able to do and that involved supporting the game way before it was showing progress. It's essentially a punishment to people who convinced their friend to buy the game before this point. It also disproportionately benefits people with large clans who will easily buy alternative copies of the game in order to refer to each other.

JMAgreed. I got into a discussion with someone because I didn't think the devs would do something like this... I mistakenly thought SURELY they wouldn't screw over the veteran supporters of the game, to where we cannot get things like the growth buff or referral skins, etc. I already paid and my money is just as good as a new purchase; in fact, most games tend to offer more benefits to their "backers," and yet we're seeing the opposite in this.
I backed PoT and all I got was this lousy brown skin... which isn't even as good as some of the in-game Marks ones, and I have no intention of ever using it. :| -

AlexeiThis is such an insane idea. People would just refer everyone they meet in the game. It doesn't make any sense.

Soulsplosion@alexei I don't know how you've managed to avoid the fact that that's what people are already doing except they're begging them to spend money to do it too
