It would push the roleplay factor in the game. People could pretend to be a nice dinosaur family of maybe some herbivores like for example iguanodon and then face the threat of the world around them where carnivores could lure around any corner. You could also have a sense of scale between the dinosaurs and their hatchlings. It would be pretty cool walking among giants which are supposed to protect and care for you while you are a small clumsy baby just hiding in the nest.
Though, it should be more of an active process where you dont sit around inside the nest until you are grown enough to wander around and fight.
The growth system already tells us that you have to do quests to grow. so i can imagine it to be really fun.

Nesting should have some advantages over nesting, maybe some parent/hatchling specific quests that would reward players with extra marks. That would help players grow their dinos while still having a "natural" feel to it.
Examples:
Bring nearby resources (Mushrooms, Roots, Branches, etc.) to the nest <- available for both parents

OR

Players (both parents and hatchlings) recieving a temporary "growth buff" which would increase the amount of marks rewarded from quests. That, or just a small amount of marks when they're grouped together until the hatchling grows a bit bigger.

Nesting is NEEDED. It gives people another goal, something to work toward and accomplish (and is also a longterm goal, in feeding and protecting the young), in a game which honestly doesn't have a whole lot else to do in it other than fetch quests currently. Plus it also encourages teamwork and cooperative gameplay, which will be really helpful against random deathmatching / KOSing from people suffering the aforementioned boredom.
So in my opinion, nesting could help with a lot of issues in one go.

Side thought: What if, when you create a nest (or are in a group with someone who has created one), it temporarily changes EVERY groupmember's blue travel quests (since if you're nesting you're not going to be making long trips for a while, until they're hatched, fed, and able to travel. It makes sense to stay a while) but change those into nest-locational quests. Like...
Build the Nest, Deliver X Branches (# shrinks /w a big group helping)
Feed the Young, return a piece of food to the nest

An AI concept could be crazy here, a possible mechanic in which the two mates make an AI baby that can do very simple commands, and eventually grows and can play as its own in game AI at some point, or you could leave it in an area, then a notification would pop up whenever someone manages to kill your kid, which would promote the mmo rpg gameplay style. A level system is also applicable to the AI

I think many players would love for nesting to be very infinitive and interactive, and it would be worth the effort! Here are a few suggestions:

- Players have to travel to a location eg. Grassland Plateau, and actually rough up a patch of the flat ground to raise a nest, this is so when a herd gets together it actually looks like nesting grounds and hunting predators can recognise this
- After theyve left the grounds, the nests deteriorate slowly and the grass can grow back
- Nests to be big enough so when the eggs that are sitting in them hatch, the hatchlings can sit comfortably in them until they are of the age to explore
- A little re-make of hatchlings of feathered dinos, where their feathers are absent until juvi, small details like that
- Parents have to do quests to upkeep their nest
- Parents have to sit on their egg for a certain time for it to incubate etc
- You can sit in an egg before it hatches (I know thats similar to BoB but i think its neat)

There should be an option to let anyone join your nest, or make it invite only, so you can still have a nest and take care of hatchlings if none of your friends want to be in a nest. A new button could be added in the character selection screen, near create new character, that lets you join anyone on the server's open nests. Maybe you could pick from a list that tells you what species you will be hatching as, or get put into a random nest when you click it.

It would be awesome if there was a feature where when it was near hatching time we could roll around in the egg, then choose what body part would hatch first (i.e. legs, tail, head, wing, etc)

O aninhamento no patch of titans poderia ter a opção do filhote ser noite,ou alguém controlar ,pois tem servidores de realismo que não são cheios aí perderia a graça de fazer manadas e tals. Outra coisa envolvendo o aninhamento seria o acabamento das espécies ser dinâmico,por exemplo as fêmeas teriam que migrar para determinado lugar há procura do macho ,e vice versa.E depois do acasalamento teria uma manada migrando com as fêmeas e os machos para um local de nidificacao ,que mais conhecido como área dos ninhos.

With realism servers becoming more popular, I think nesting should be the next feature added--or at least added sooner than anticipated. Not only is it just convenient and fun to do on regular servers, it's a necessity on the realism ones. The current method of nesting on these servers is walking to one of the few waystones on Panjura. This not only opens the door to misuse of the waystones that adds another thing to moderate, but makes it more of a nuisance for slower creatures to immerse themselves in the realism experience. It's a highly requested feature by all players at the moment and I think the community would benefit greatly from being able to use this feature.

A suggestion to encourage nesting (beside making it a glorified spawn point) is to maybe add a new currency, "Nesting Marks" which can be traded in for special skins and maybe abilities? Perhaps you can be given quests related to care for your offspring, too.

>Find and group with a mate for a small immediate gain of "Nesting Marks" (mates get special POI hearts)
>Build a nest with XYZ materials for a small gain of "Nesting Marks"
>See Player A is satiated (parents get quest when the child gets their own "Find Food/Water" quest)
>See player B grow into a Juvenile
>See Player C grow into an Adolescent
>Perhaps adding in a "growth buff" for being near your parents when they complete quests normally, and the parents get a share of "Nesting Marks" when they complete their own quests.

Or perhaps making it so that, while your offspring is in your party, change all of the parent's earned marks into special premium "Nesting Marks", to make a sort of "end game" grind.

Will the hatched dinos also be AI controlled if you don't want a friend to join and maybe prefer a solo play? This will allow the few with one or two friends to still enjoy nesting and have children willing to defend their parents giving a greater impact to solo players and groupings.

For nesting mechanics I want to see that the hatchlings can be both AI and a players, that would be practical because that means that everybody can make nests full of babies and they don’t need to rely on players to take a role of a hatchling. Also genealogical tree, mutations, would be a nice touch, as well as having AI babies would fix the problem for having AI dinosaurs roaming around and they can bring more enjoyable experience on server.

My opinion on this is if the hatchlings can start with the active skin of their same sex parent already equipped(so they match), & a slight buff such as if their same sex parent is passing on all their static buffs from their Build to their offspring & the offspring will start with all their parents passive skills unlocked, but only have a small percentage of the buffs & will gain a higher percentage of those buffs as they grow, & I think the hatchlings created in this way should be slightly stronger than their counter parts, even if they can only pick one attribute to be buffed, it would add depth to the builds, & the two players that have created the hatchlings should be able to choose who gets to play the hatchling by inviting someone to there game & group, & allowing that invited player to choose the hatchling in their selection on entering the game.

Just thought of one other thing, please make it so nests can be created anywhere in the game, but the players have to collect stuff to build the nests, & adding in some terrain to the game that is more dense with undergrowth, such as bushes & water plants so the hatchlings can hide from predators in them, would help with the way of life for the little guys.

Great idea for immersion and helping new players. I’m newer to the game and the hardest thing has been finding others to help with quests. It would be so awesome to add this as the game grows as people begin playing PoT. It could also be a way to introduce a type of clan system in the game.

I think a really cool thing u could do to make players really wanna take the family roles and also push nesting is to give the babies dinos a small buff for boasted exp maybe even time based from when they hatch and if you wanted you can give a small buff to the parents they wouldn't need exp since there adults but it could be boasted mark gain like 2 instead of one to push questing or even a small defense like negate 5% dmg to give that small edge for the mothers protecting there young but make it have to be in a certain distance of young and it could even be a time buff once the babies hatch like 30 min good enough time if babies have exp buff to get from hatchling to juvenile to possibly even adol

3 quest need when u would made a nest is to build the nest, keep foods for babes and devolpping the eges. When the parents become the babes u gain 1 stats point and that can go over and over again. Its juste my idee or oppinion is this is how that might be with the nest and without all of this its got no point to have a nest.

Suggestion for nesting:
-For a player that wan't their hatchlings grow even faster is recommended to look for nesting grounds that will be seted randomly on map, they will give growth boost for 30 minutes.
-If nest is not on the ground nesting hatchlings will not recieve any growth boost.
-If nest is too near to teh water it will melt it self from the ground filled with water.
-Can only hatch the same specie of yours.
-The temperature mechanic is simple: Every specie has his own temperature for hatching as best, for example Eotrike will need medium temperature how to know what temperature is <Cold-----Medium ( most prefered bot for ex. sarcos will prefer mroe cold temperature )-----Hot> If too cold embryos will just freeze and die if too hot embryos will "melt" from temperature but every specie will has it's own.
That is my suggestion for the Nesting future.

Honestly i can only see this being good for homecave, and it'd consist of baby dinos walking around your homecave; not very exciting.

Unless you get access to new types of quests that help with growth? But then it'd be a pretty underwhelming feature for adults who don't need it.

AI babies that follow and grow would be a nightmare because their pathfinding would be chaotic. And i personally would'nt want to wait around to see if it's keeping up. And if players can eat your babies then..well... read global chat with some popcorn.

Honestly not a fan of this idea, doesn't scream excitement nor do i think it will be worth the wait when this does become a thing. No clue what the devs have in mind though, so we'll just have to see. Could be something completely different.

Nesting will only be truly effective if it acted as a spawn point for when you die. It'll save players running back from far corners of the map.

i feel they need to add where it warns you a egg is hatching and the username for the player alongside the warning on the top of your screen. and that the group/female and male dinosaur need to be sitting down or laying right next to the nest for the cutscene. and if they are not, the egg will not hatch for the next 2 minutes with the player inside of it, when the egg hatches. the baby player will be full for the next 1 minute and then they are gonna need food and water. which requires the parents/group to guide them safely to water and kill/find food. and then when the baby player is adolescent it will know where water and food is. and is allowed to explore only 20 footsteps away from the nest, and when it is sub-adult it will be able to get food by its own and explore 50 footsteps away from the nest. when it is adult it can explore as far as it wants and can finally leave the group if it wants. and start the life cycle all over again! in my opinion. i think this is the best idea.

I haven't read all the comments cause there's so many so if this has been said I apologize.

I think nesting is awesome but I belive there should be some kind of benefit to it.

I.e. if you "mate" with another dino of the same species but different variant there should be a chance for the hatchling to get benefits, and even possibly hindrances from both parents.

Then either of the parents can choose to become the new hatchling effectively starting their dino over but with the new stats of the hatchling OR when you invite a friend to the game they can start out as the improved/worsened dino.

I only suggest that it's possible to have a worse dino cause if not then it would not be balanced.

you should make sure you can mate between two players and not so you just magically poof an egg. unless you are planning on doing that for only the dinosaurs that can reproduce asexually. Also could add a new emote in the animal call wheel that suggests nesting.

the Allosaurus needs to be buffed alot the defense and damage needs to be increased the claw attack should be 1 cool down not 2 seconds . the Allosaurus's damage should be higher the bite should have more damage the Allosaurus really needs to be buffed

In my opinion nests should need some collecting of materials that differs between each dinosaur type. Such as sticks/branches, leaves, maybe shells or nuts, lakeweed for crocs and such.

i see it as making the game more grindy than it needs to be quest no point to them and you get punished for not doing them since you need marks to do anything in this game now nesting making you waste hours of your time to just grow your dino. Honestly they need to just make pvp servers without all the extra nonsense added no marks no quests no nesting. idk how the sever hosting works but it would be nice to allow server admins to have the power to say we dont want quest marks and nesting

I agree that it should be real. There should be a chance that they die without hatching, though. This could really help with a realism effect that the game does great in already, but takes it to the next level. They already have a mating call, but what's the point if you can't reproduce? It would really help in many ways. Someone said that you should be able to be the baby, and I agree, but it should be the oldest living after the parent dies. It could also lead to natural selection, which has been in nature since the beginning. ( I'm not a evolutionist, I've always been a creationist, and forever will be)

I feel like nesting could help you get exp to grow with or boost the hatchling in a family like system. Pack dynamics could reward you extra exp. I’m offering these ideas because XP growth is super slow and adding these extra possibilities could help improve the overall game mechanics to enhance the experience of living the life of a dinosaur.

I think the Rex should get a new variation where it has some feathers and it gives it more speed in density and makes fall damage a little better I also think that long falls off cliffs or something should break bones in the future these are just some suggestions

Seeing people here commenting on things that have nothing to do with the topic itself is annoying, but whatever. Nesting would be awesome, maybe not for those who are only interested in PvP, growing up and killing everyone they see along the way, but it is something extremely useful for those who enjoy roleplay and are part of a server that even has events in the style of having and growing a family of dinosaurs. In my opinion, how could this be: only a male and a female of the same species could create a nest for the female to lay eggs. It would be necessary to keep them warm, which could vary according to the species. I don't support that hatchlings are AI, but players that, I don't know, maybe need some specific code or invitation to be one of the eggs. If it goes that way, I think it will be awesome for those who are interested in roleplay and not just being a nuisance that kills everything it sees.

I think a nesting system with a goal only to invite other players into it is a missed opportunity. A nest of two dinos could be the very basic of a future clan/group system where the nest could act as a spawn point/gathering point/home base. Not to mention the introduction of AI dinos later, what if these AI dinos would also need to grow up just like players? The juveniles from the eggs should not be players, but NPC dinos instead, give the game another layer of realism: Where is a sarco nest, there is a bigger sarcoplayer/npc population.

Or as an alternative idea, what if nests would not be points in the actual world, but instead you could create seperate instances, like the home caves. The home caves, or a new place called nest could act as a "clan house", could be an upgradeable safe meeting/gathering point for the members of the group. Oviously these should be specie locked.

Questing. We have been trying to improve questing. So I look at nesting. Allow a species of online players to mate
make it pg they have to go to the same hc
Make a nest or bowl in earth or pre designated spots. No new player can be born of a nest it’s to hard to understand when you are are under constant threat. Make it optional to be born in the cave or of a nest. If you request to be born of nesting and there is none available make it a optional quest that appears for a female dinosaur of that species give them a mating call sun adults or older. Make a quest that allows other same species players in area to protect young or nest for a specified time. Give the mother a 20 percent health boost or combat bonus to protect its young dependent upon species.make it worth it bonus growth for young at nest. Now if there is a birth there must be a death dinosaurs get old maybe 40 hours in game but keep marks. It answers my age old question what to do after being an adult

Introducing life and death into the game we can speed up the process at with your dinosaur will grow for the more avid players I feel this will be a must who burn through the adult hours of their dinosaurs.
We could look at making interbreeding but it’s touchy
The upside to my previous mentioned note
-Same species herding
-more quests
-protection from mix packs(as herds or packs of same species now exist)
-we are now utilizing more of the map as it will mostly be encouraged to move away from hotspots to nest
-make it more friendly as people will bond through in game play
-what to do as an adult now will not become full of fighting and same old quests as death will bring a new cycle
Potential Downsides to previous mentioned note
-people may abuse the bonus given to mothers as a protective instinct
- a new type of “mix pack” will be created of same species animals
-people may not want to lose their dinosaurs to old age
-baby killing may skyrocket

The hatching should be 5 min. nesting is also kinda already done, in official servers when you spawn, your near like 3 nests in the tutorial cave, so there should be a trace of a pack/herd that left.

on the other hand, how would the herbis get food from berries? they would have to nest near a berry bush and a water source in order to do that.

if the parent is alone, how would the carnis survive with other carnis or herbivores wanting to kill them? this should require an opposite gender, and not by itself like blue from jw. the babys should hide in a bush or something.

some sauropods dont nest, such as brachiosaurus. they just lay the eggs and leave.
hadrosaurs, like maiasaura, take good care of the young.

its just a game, too. unless its a semi-real server.

I would prefer this if you could raise an A.I. hatchling to adult to attack with you which would be really beneficial to solo players. This mechanic is in a lot of survival games as a pet mechanic.

I would love to suggest a feature added to nesting for community servers (semi-realism and realism) and nesting:
- Allow staff to use a / command to enable nesting for a specific species.
Ex:
/nesting Tyrannosaurus
- Toggling this would give you a chat indication of "Tyrannosaurus nesting is enabled." or "Tyrannosaurus nesting is disabled"

Also another cool feature would be, although a bit crazy:
Disable creating a new character of [x] species, only allowing them to be created through Nesting via a command.
/creationdisable Tyrannosaurus - would make them unable to be made in the character selection menu.

This can be achieved by when you enter a server, and you are on the Character Creation menu, there is another tab called "Nests"
So if someone has an active Nest for Tyrannosaurus open, you can join the nest as Tyrannosaurus hatchling.

This feature would allow servers to help limit certain dinosaurs (for the sake of realism, to help limit populations of certain dino.

Just an idea... Add an emote called 'Mating call'.
That way, two dino-parents can find one another, and people can see/hear that a nest will be available.
Once the nest is made, up to 5 eggs can be put in (depending on species, 1-2 for Tyrannosaurus, 4-5 for Parasuchus or Deinonychus) and for as long as the babies are still hatchies or juvies, the emote becomes unavailable.

My group and I cannot wait to have nesting, and we really hope we will be able to set up a nest in anyplace of the map. You all have made so many unused places in the map such as caves, and cool crevasse and ledges that we would love to utilize for nest. this will bring more people to explore the map in different ways. My biggest concern is if you make nesting in predetermined areas they will be easy to camped at and exploited.

*Nesting will add quest to the parents, and spawned dinos.
